Dear English-speakers,
Auréole (with an acute accent on its first e) is a perfectly
common french word, probably of latin origin (?aureus=gold), used for
Catholic (and Orthodox icons also ? previously ?) God, Saints and
Angels in the paintings but also about Political people (mainly the
biggest cheaters when they try to make a come back). In the french
language de tous les jours it is currently used in the laundry, when
they are unable to remove completely dirty marks from one's clothes :
il reste une auréole, Madame, désolé. It is VERY easy to pronounce,
as you can see.
