Ancient Civilizations
The Educational Multimedia Unit is a lively and highly committed team
developing ICT resources for The British Museum. Working together in design
teams, multimedia authors and developers create exciting and innovative
content for classroom learning.
Ancient Civilizations is a series of websites designed by the Unit that
uses the extensive collections of The British Museum to construct a unique
educational experience.
The first two products in the series: www.ancientegypt.co.uk and
www.mesopotamia.co.uk have been completed and production has commenced on
the next products for India and China.
The Unit is presently looking to recruit a new team member who will be able
to hit the ground running and work with existing staff to complete this
exciting and ambitious programme.
Educational Multimedia Author
ED5 - Ancient China: This position requires a current or ex KS2 teacher
with experience of developing history resources. A general understanding of
Chinese history and/or experience of developing ICT content is desirable.
Coming from a teaching background, the applicants must demonstrate an
understanding of object-based learning and adapting progressive educational
models to new media.
They must have excellent creative writing and editing skills; producing
exciting and imaginative scripts to order, in a variety of styles and
formats. They must also be able and willing to work in an open and
collaborative manner with multimedia developers, evaluators and other
multimedia authors. Within this team they will follow an established
storyboard, reworking scripts to meet technical constraints while meeting
the educational goals of the site.
The duties of the post-holders will include historical research, writing,
editing, liaising with curators, and developing teaching materials. Thus,
they must demonstrate initiative and creativity in addition to an ability
to work with a variety of historical and educational sources and materials,
as well as with colleagues in the museum.
Candidates must have at least one year of professional experience.
Starting immediately the post is a fixed term contract until March 31st
2003.
