Journal of the International Phonetic Association
The Journal of the International Phonetic Association is now being
published by Cambridge University Press. Two issues of volume 31 for 2001
and issue 1 of volume 32 (June 2002) have appeared. JIPA is now back on
schedule. Please confirm with your institutional library that they are
receiving JIPA (and JIPA Online) and that their institutional subscription
has not been interrupted. Individual membership of the Association (which
includes receipt of the journal) can still be obtained through the IPA
Treasury. Consult the IPA web site
(http://www.arts.gla.ac.uk/IPA/ipa.html). Regular annual membership is now
40 Euros.
I.P.A. Council Election 2003
As prescribed in the by-laws of the IPA, the election of a new Council will
begin in August 2002. The process will begin with nomination papers being
sent out to all members in good standing, followed by the distribution of
ballot papers for the election of 20 Council members, the nomination and
election of 10 co-opted Council members, and the nomination and election of
officers; finishing one month before the International Congress of Phonetic
Sciences to be held in Barcelona in August 2003. Nominations and ballots
for IPA members to elect an initial group of 6 elected members to the
Permanent Council of the ICPhS will also be included in the IPA mailings.

Description:
Applications are being accepted for a tenure-track position in
Linguistics commencing September 1, 2003. This position is subject to
approval by the University Board of Governors and final budgetary
authorization.
The appointment will be made at the Assistant Professor rank. The
successful applicant will specialize in speech science, be able to
teach phonetics and phonology, and be able to contribute to other
areas of the department's teaching. Candidates should have a
background in some combination of the following areas:
neurolinguistics, speech disorders, acoustic and articulatory
phonetics.
Candidates should hold a Ph.D. (or be near completion) in linguistics
or in a closely related field, and be able to demonstrate teaching
ability.
