The GBHGIS is also based on administrative units. Because our GIS is built from
census data, places are identified by their contemporary reporting districts,
approximately since 1801.
We will be seeking to give access to these geographies by modern local authority
units, redistricting our statistical information appropriately and presenting it visually via
maps.
We do not currently have information redistricted into ancient counties, nor do we
currently have plans to include ancient counties as part of our resource.
I would, however, be interested to know whether potential users would consider some
discussion of counties to be a useful addition to our web site?
