Re: Graduate Training Programme in Theoretical Statistics
and Applied Probability
The first course of the joint RSS/EPSRC/ESRC graduate
training programme will be held at Nuffield College,
Oxford, from 23-27th September 2002. Aimed primarily
at first and second year PhD students in statistics
and related disciplines, the programme is designed to
strengthen the mathematical background of statistics
PhD students through a series of courses. The first
course will comprise the following two modules:
Fundamentals of Statistical Theory
Lecturer: Alastair Young, University of Cambridge
and
Probability Models based on Processes with Independent
Increments
Lecturer: Nick Bingham, Brunel University

Research council funding means that we have a total of
30 subsidised places for PhD students registered at a Higher
Education Institutes and undertaking PhD research on statistics
or related topics covered by the EPSRC. All such students are
eligible to apply for a funded place, but priority for funded
places will be given to EPSRC supported students. A further 6
funded places are available for students covered by the
remit of the ESRC.
Students with a funded place will only be required to
meet their own travel costs and a registration fee of
120 pounds. The cost of non-funded places (covering
registration, accommodation and meals) will be 450 pounds.
