Dear Colleagues
having read the first few intro's I'm feeling very inspired - I'm sure you
will all prove to be useful contacts.
I took up post as Public Library Networking Focus at UKOLN, based at
University of Bath in September last year, and my background (for the past 8
years) has been in research and development, mainly in academic library and
information services - with the focus on ICT/hybrid libraries/electronic
information resources. My masters is in information science, but I also have
a teaching and lecturing qualification and experience of staff training and
course development.
I have close contact with Resource (especially the People's Network team),
and am forging links with people involved in developing the Single Regional
Agencies for the three domains (libraries, museums, archives).
I am interested in elearning per se, but more specifically in how it might
be used in Public Libraries - most of which will be fully Internet-capable
by the end of this year. Learndirect/UfI centres are already being
established in many public libraries.
Given the lifelong learning and social inclusion agendas I would like to see
how public libraries might collaborate with FE/HE institutions, and with
museums and libraries - in particular in resource sharing (from ICT
infrastructure to e-content and possibly VLEs), and how compliance with
standards will ensure some of this is possible.
Best wishes,
Penny Garrod
