Dear all
We have around 50 subscribers now, so please introduce yourself to the list if you would like to. As well as helping individuals find contacts for potential collaboration, it will also give us all some sense of the variety of experience and interests of group members.
I work 4 days per week as Internet Projects Manager (see below for project details) in the Learning Unit at the Science Museum. I taught Science in Secondary schools for 8 years and then took an MA in Science Education at King's College, London before joining the Museum 6 years ago.
My principal interest in this group is in sharing practical ideas for the development and evaluation of effective elearning opportunities - with effectiveness measured from the learner point of view!
Being museum-based I am also particularly keen to learn from library/archive/HE people.

Current projects summarised below. (If you would like any more information please try the web links first.)
STEM (Students' and Teachers' Educational Materials) project
STEM has been running for nearly 6 years and now features a competition to stimulate production by students, teachers and others, of web-based resources to help others make better educational use of the Science Museum and its sister museums, NMPFT in Bradford and NRM in York. Sample resources and more information available at www.sciencemuseum.org.uk/education/stem
COMO (Challenge of Materials Online) project
This project has the aim of stimulating production by students, teachers and others, of web-based resources relating to materials, usually based around visits to industrial or other materials-related sites. Sample resources and more information available at www.sciencemuseum.org.uk/education/como
Science Learning Network projects
I have worked on a number of different projects for SLN (www.sln.org), including evaluation of existing resources (involving log analysis, in-classroom observation and group interviews) and coordinating production of web-based resources, including those at www.sciencemuseum.org.uk/pieces
NotSchool
This project, run by Ultralab with funding from DfES, aims to provide a supportive, motivating environment to re-engage teenagers into learning, who are out of school in the long term for a variety of reasons. The Science Museum provides input in the Science and Technology area, through a rolling programme of content and by simply keeping in touch with the young 'researchers' via the Think.com environment. More information available at www.notschool.net
Internet courses for teachers
We also run courses including Writing for the Web, The Internet for Primary Teachers and IT for animation and interactivity.
