On the Couch
   with
Nora Armani
Candid Tales of Love and Nostalgia sprinkled with humour from A to Z!

written and performed by Nora Armani
directed by François Kergourlay

Cairo in the 60s, Hollywood in the 80s, London in the 90s…The Bosphorus &
Istanbul, Anatolian summers, Cairo and its synagogues, Alexandria and its
port, Khan El Khalili and its spices, Hollywood and its follies contrasted
with the Scottish Highlands, present the backdrop for the journey of a
woman in search of an identity and a culture to call her own. With music,
song and dance Nora Armani evokes love stories, emotional tales and secret
dreams.

Nora Armani is an award-winning actress, with a long-standing international
stage and film career. She has performed in many countries in different
languages and she is the recipient of several awards for performance and
creation: most recently Best Actress at the Siunik Film Festival in
Armenia. She holds two passports, two degrees - one of which from London,
commands 6.5 languages, and personifies the transnational. But when asked
where she comes from 'I'm a Diasporan'she says . Is this a new species, or
a very old one whose time has come?

"Nora Armani's production/ performance is a tour de force: an attempt at
collective introspection over difficult times and spaces. It is rare for
Armenians to introspect, even more difficult to do so collectively. Well,
Nora has done it." Gerard Libaridian.

"…the deft, bedazzling Armani creates textured characters and substantial
momentum."
Los Angeles Times.

"Bravo! Such a graceful public confession." Fr. Vertanes Kalayjian-
Washington.

Nora Armani performed the play on tour in Los Angeles, Chicago, Detroit,
Philadelphia and Montreal recently, as well as its French version in Paris,
at the Alfred Cortot, Salle Rossini and Firmin Gémier Theatres.

The play is directed by François Kergourlay of the Conservatoire National
Supérieur d'Art Dramatique and La Comédie Française, former director of
Théâtre Firmin Gémier-Antony. Lighting design is by Jean-Pierre Marry of
Théâtre du Soleil and Comédie des Champs Elysées.

Performances are 9 & 10, 16 & 17, 23 & 24 June at 8pm at the New End
Theatre in Hampstead, 27 New End, London NW3. There will be an opening
night reception after the performance on the 9th and after performance
discussions with the actress on select evenings. Seats are £12 concessions
£10. For press information, interviews, group and advance booking discounts
