At the Environment Agency the flow and provision of information is fundamental to the achievement of our objectives, and with the principal aim of protecting and enhancing the environment in England and Wales, we're contributing enormously towards sustainable development.
We are required by law to comply with the provisions of data protection law and other rules of privacy and confidentiality. With this in mind we now have a unique opportunity within the Agency for an experienced Data Protection Manager to join us and formulate data protection policy and business procedures throughout the Agency.
Based at our Head Office in Bristol, you will report to the Head of Scientific and Technical Information Services, ensuring that legislation is adhered to regarding both electronic and paper systems. Acting as the focal point on data protection for regulatory staff from the Information Commissioner and other government departments, you will assume responsibility for subject access requests and ensuring minimum risk of legal action. As the position involves liaison with all levels of management in the Agency, you will need the presence and credibility to be able to manage this process successfully.
Degree qualified, your awareness of the requirements and practical implementation of data protection law, coupled with a practical, hands-on approach will be complemented by strong leadership and influencing skills, ideally developed in a large distributed organisation. With an astute business mind, your clear commercial vision will be demonstrated through your negotiating, team working and networking skills and you will also have the professional standing gained from significant experience of data protection.
