The BCS Requirements Engineering Specialist Group
presents a
One-day Symposium on

Recycling Requirements for Systems and Product Families

9.30-16.30, Wednesday 24th April 2002
Room 418, Huxley Building, Dept. of Computing, Imperial College,
180 Queen's Gate, London SW7 2BZ

Important industrial and research trends are converging, leading to the
opportunity to recycle stakeholder and systems requirements effectively
for the first time. Many organisations are developing families of software
and software-intensive products that share numerous requirements. Others
are re-engineering their current systems to satisfy requirements more
effectively. More effective knowledge management and organisational memories

mean that requirements and other artefacts are now available to be recycled.

All provide exciting new opportunities to improve the quality and
productivity
of requirements engineering processes. However, recycling requirements is
not without challenges.

This one-day symposium composed of a tutorial, presentation and an
expert panel, will investigate the what, when and how of recycling
requirements
for software and software-intensive systems.

*Who should attend?*

Practitioners, vendors and academics interested in recycling and reusing
requirements and other information during the earlier stages of the systems
development process, in particular for the development of product families.
Attend if you use or want to know more about requirements determination
and requirements management for product families, document reuse for
specifying embedded systems, and other topics.

*Speakers and Demonstrations*

Speakers at the symposium include leading consultants, practitioners and
academics in requirements engineering, systems engineering and the
development of product families:

- Dr Jeremy Dick, Telelogic
- Dr Cristina Gacek, University of Newcastle upon Tyne
- Dr Hermann Kaindl, Siemens Austria
- Friedemann W. Kiedaisch, University of Ulm
- Professor Mike Mannion, Glasgow Caledonian University
- Rob van Ommering, Philips
- Juha Savolainen, Nokia

The Chairs are Dr Neil Maiden of City University London
and Dr Alessandra Russo of Imperial College.

Panel discussions will give ample opportunity to discuss key issues.

*Structure*

The one-day event will start at 09.30 and finish at 16.30 on the 24th April.

It will consist of two parts:

- A morning tutorial on Requirements for Product Families, by Professor Mike
Mannion
of Glasgow Caledonian University and Dr Herman Kaindl of Siemens Austria.

- An afternoon of presentations and one panel session with experts from
academia
and industry on different roles, problems and solutions with recycling
requirements.

*Venue*

Room 418, Huxley Building, Dept. of Computing, Imperial College,
180 Queen's Gate, London SW7 2BZ
