Another charming back-channel from Mr. Murphy, who doesn't seem to know how
to take a hint any more than he can see who needs a psychiatrist. I'll keep
forwarding these, as I think it's important to get them into the archives as
a warning to potential Brit-Po subscribers (particularly the female ones).
Meanwhile, I asked a local Italian friend to read the "Sicily" post and the
back-channel one about Murphy's pal Philippe and the alleged burning of
restaurants outside a specific Sicilian town. My friend is looking into the
factuality of the latter, as the police might be interested in "acting on
the information received" (so to speak) from Mr. Murphy. As for the "Sicily"
post, my friend says the Italian in it is totally bogus--full of spelling
and grammatical errors to the point of incoherency--and that the specific
references to things Siciliano were selected, in my friend's opinion, solely
to scare me. All this, on a poetry list yet! "What is going on?" as Randolph
so cogently asked.
And thank you, Randolph, Robin, and Richard for registering your protests.
I'm very glad to know that some Brit-Pos find these threats objectionable.
