Blackboard is currently a blackhole when it comes to content
management - you cannot search for stuff. At the Swansea
meeting last week I detected that the penny was starting
to drop on this front. The advice from BB was invest
in HarvestRoad (http://www.harvestroad.com/). Oh? How
much? About the same as price as Blackboard Enterprise ....
One way to proceed might be to point something like
htdig at the bit of the file system that contains
all the uploaded documents and to index that. Then
I guess you write something in Building Blocks that
exposes the htdig search interface inside Blackboard.
The downside is that I guess this would cut across
any access controls that you might have implemented
in Blackboard .....
