Andy - I don't think that copying courses would work for us because the course ids we use on Bb are the University's module identifiers and these don't change from year to year. My feeling is that students should be able to access the previous year's work - but we are still discussing the feasibility of keeping last year's work on-line. If we follow this tack we'll have to have up to five versions of each course (for the medics and dentists) and keep them all supported - not a particularly attractive proposition, especially as I am not a technician and we only have a 0.6 technical appointment.
I'm a) hoping that Learning System will come up with a clever fix over the next couple of years, b) asking my academic colleagues for their thoughts and c) asking my admininistrative colleagues whether the university regulations need to be looked at again in the light of current technological developments. It is probably worth keeping both versions of Blackboard live next year and tracking how much the 01/02 version gets used, if at all. Has anyone else got any thoughts on this?
