KEYNOTE SPEAKER: Jane Rendall, Department of History, University of
York
Paper or panel proposals are invited on any aspect of the construction
of
"worlds" (cultural, epistemological, scientific, discursive,
geopolitical)
in the nineteenth century. INCS is an association of scholars in
History,
Women's Studies, Art History, Anthropology, Science Studies,
Philosophy,
various literatures, and other disciplines devoted to the
interdisciplinary
exploration of nineteenth-century culture and its relation to our
contemporary world. Possible proposal topics might include but are not
limited to:
-nationalisms -histories of the
world
-regional culture -worlds of
knowledge
-cartography -population
migrations
-imperial politics -microscopic worlds
-globalization -global commerce
-travel writing -"contact zones"
-partitioned worlds -aesthetic worlds
-museums and exhibitions -gendered
worlds
Discussions and paper presentations will be in English.

Notification of acceptance will be mailed electronically in December
2002. Sessions at the conference are devoted to discussion following

minute presentations. Complete papers are available in advance at a
password-protected section of the conference website.
