I would assume that what we have here is the usual story of a journalist
and an MP who are both unable to understand the difference between
contracting-out the storage and retrieval of non-current records, and
"selling the records to a private company"?
It's ironic that the main plank of so many paper records management
programmes - that of saving money by removing non-current files from
expensive accommodation to cheaper warehousing - should suddenly cause so
much fuss when the warehouse itself becomes expensive accommodation!
Unless my interpretation above is completely wrong then surely the real
point of interest in this otherwise non-story is the aside about the PRO
agreeing to "lower its standards" to allow a PFI to go ahead.
