Artists’ Papers Register
The task of compiling the Register for Greater London has commenced, due to
a generous grant from the Getty Grant Program.
The Artists’ Papers Register was the inspiration of the Association of Art
Historians, who recognised the need to create a unified list of primary
sources relating to artists, designers, and craftworkers located in
libraries, museums, archives, private companies and other collections
throughout England, Scotland and Wales. Details of the holdings in the
Greater London area are the latest element to be compiled; results of
earlier survey work already completed provide an invaluable resource for
anyone interested in the history of art and design, and can be searched at:
http://www.hmc.gov.uk/artists/.
The Project Officers, Miranda Stead and Gudrun Richardson, based in the
Museum Archives section at the Victoria & Albert Museum, will be sending
out questionnaires to repositories to solicit relevant information and
updating the Register accordingly. It is anticipated the Greater London
element of the Register will take 18 months to complete, with the
possibility of funding for a further 6 months.
