Dear all,
We have been using DVD storage for an archive of 100,000 architectural
documents that are being scanned and archived by my company. I had been
asking the client to adopt DVD storage for about 10 months and finally in
August they decided to go for it. We were delivering approx 30 CD-R
(approx 8000 image files) every month and now we are delivering approx 5-6
DVD-R every month.
Our job is made considerably easier creating DVD-R is very simple as long
as you have a decent burning software package (I recommend Primo Prassi
from Veritas). We decided to Go for DVD-R and -RW because the blank media
is cheaper and performance-wise there is very little to distinguish
between DVD- and DVD+. Forget DVD-RAM it is already a dinosaur.
We have created dozens of backup DVD's thusfar and consider the kit a
wothwhile investment. Incedentally we bought a Lacie External DVD-R
burner connected by a IEEE 1394 (firewire).
In my opinion DVD is the way forward (especially considering that soon
enough double-sided (9GB) and dual layered (18GB) DVD-R will be cheap
enough to beat all other removeable storage media).
This is just my opinion and I can thoroughly recommend it.
