If you are looking for a post that offers variety and challenge, then this new job could be for you. We are looking for a committed and enthusiastic qualified archivist to become the first Archivist for the Bishopsgate Institute and to work on cataloguing and searchroom duties at Hackney Archives Department.
The Bishopsgate Institute's Grade II* listed public reference library holds book and archive collections on London and 19th and 20th century free thought and working class movements. You will be responsible for the archive and visual collections and provide advice on records management to the Foundation during a time of radical expansion and modernisation of its services. At Hackney Archives Department, you will be part of the team of this small innovative office, with a chance to participate in current and new ICT initiatives, and with a rewarding mixture of working with customers and listing council and deposited collections. Time will be divided between the two offices, which are about a mile and a half apart. The appointment will be for an initial period of one year, subject to renewal.
You should be a graduate with a recognised qualification in archive administration. Students currently on postgraduate archive courses are welcome to apply.
