I must applaud Mark Pomeroy's affirmation of the value of the core
subjects of courses. I would not feel secure working alongside any
archivist who had no training in administrative history, paleography
and diplomatic. And I would feel very pleased to be alongside one who
had Latin, preferably better than mine. I believe that these subjects
have been reduced on the courses, if so this is deplorable, especially
with regard to admin. history. Tell me it's not true !
Following on from the above, if I were responsible for the National
Curriculum, Latin would be compulsory for at least the first two years
of secondary school, and Greek an option for all.
