I have hunted the web for information regarding the relative hardness of
copper (99.99%) and bronze (with a tin content of approximately 10%)---and
have become increasingly confused at the range of answers I have found!
Regardless of whether expressed in Brinell, Knoop or Vickers can someone
please enlighten me as to these two values.
Alternatively, would someone be good enough to advise me of a readily
available boof which would provide the information?
I am endeavouring to establish a value for the 'apparent' increase in
efficacy of a bronze cutting edge over a copper version.
I also wish to understand whether 'hammering' or 'beating' the surfaces of
these two metals increases or decreases their hardness? Similarly,
does 'quenching' have an effect?
Thankyou in grateful anticipation,
A somewhat bewildered MA student,
David Smith.
