Dear Colleagues,
At Newcastle, we have a University Childcare Fund which we use to subsidise
the cost of students' childcare. This was set up before the advent of the
Childcare Grant and is accessible to all full and part-time students, both
home and international. Any funds awarded are paid direct to the childcare
provider, who must be state registered, on a monthly basis.
In practise, we now use our Hardship Funds to top up the Childcare Grant for
home students and rely on our own Childcare Fund for Postgrads and
International Students who don't qualify for the grant.
The application procedure for students with childcare costs has become so
complex as a result of the various funds, Bursaries etc and we are looking
at ways of streamlining the procedure. We want to begin by reviewing our
application forms!
I would be very grateful if colleagues would agree to:
(a) let me know how they administer such schemes and
(b) let me have copies of the relevant application forms they use
With many thanks for your help.
Yours,
Karin
