Subject: Nursing & Midwifery Records
We are currently looking at some of our pracatices with a view to slimming
down processes. A lot of what we did, and in some cases still do, is left
over from the colleges of nursing and midwifery with which we merged in '93.
One practice in particular is that of keeping nursing and midwifery student
records more or less forever. This is in order to supply past students
with details of their training should they require this for new employers.
If their new employers are in the US, Australia or New Zealand very detailed
information and form filling is required.
I should be most grateful if anyone out there who delivers nursing/midwifery
programmes could let me know if you also supply such information and keep
student files for a protracted period. I was informed by the ENB that
there is no requirement to do so, the UKCC also said this but hastily added
that they could not be expected to supply such information - and the NMC
said it was up to us as to the practice we adopt.
What do other institutions do?
