Sorry, I should have said that we are of course aware of the new fields in the 2002-03 HESA return (from Student Circular 02/01. http://www.hesa.ac.uk/circulars/student/2002/02_01.htm)
The question is really:
Does anyone know what the NHS bodies intend to do once they have this individualised information and will it reduce the other requirements for information locally?

Apologies for cross-posting
Our Academic Registrar has forwarded the note below to me, originally sent to the Academic Registrar's jiscmail list.
Does anyone know any more about this that they would be prepared to share with the rest of us? (Especially anyone at HESA?).

As part of our contract negotiations with the local NHS Confederation, the
issue of reports on student numbers to monitor contract delivery is being
discussed.
Our Confederation has simply given us a copy of the data which another
local university has agreed to supply and said 'Can you do the same?',
which seems a bit ad hoc.
Does anyone know whether there has been any discussion about a national
approach being taken using HESA data, perhaps in the way that was developed
with TTA? I realise that this would not meet their requirement for monthly
reporting of student movement, but it might better meet their need as far
as eventual PIs are concerned.
Also, has there been any national level discussion as to whether they might
be willing to use HESA codes for (e.g.) ethnicity, reason for leaving,
highest qualification at entry etc.
Anyone else facing similar issues?
