Due to individual national, federal or state registration requirements,
there is no such thing as a global physiotherapy qualification.
Anyone wishing to upgrade their qualifications would have to select with
which country they wish to obtain such a qualification and, once the
qualification has been obtained, they would then join the ranks of all
those with registration in that country and, like them, undertake
whatever further training is required if they wish to practice
elsewhere.

Subject: Fast Track Physio Courses
HI there mail base users. I would like to draw to everyones attention
the
promotion of post graduate courses in Physiotherapy. I have been
investigating several courses offered around the world, including
Germany
and Scotland, that offer either an up grade to a bachelors degree or
post
graduate masters degree in Physiotherapy.
The reason for this is that there are many PT's in the poorer countries
who
would like to work in the UK, Australia, Canada and the USA.
Unfortunately
their current training is inadequate and so they need to take on further
studies. I have suggested to these individuals that they only take on
further study if they are guaranteed to gain global recognition of the
course content following its completion. If not they are simply paying
for
an education that doesn't change their current employment status, only
their knowledge.
Many courses such as the Fast Track Physio Master course in Scotland (2
years duration) are actually open to anyone with an undergraduate
science
degree, but it is not open to those with a previous "sub-optimal"
physiotherapy degree. Their marketing proudly displays the fact that the
masters in physiotherapy degree leads to CPSM registration in the UK and
hence they could join the CSP. However as a member of the CSP, with this
type of training, I would think that they are not eligable for
registration
in any non-uk country. I believe the inclusion of these graduates in the
CSP will serve to further complicate the entry process for all UK
Physio's
wanting to enter Australia.
I would welcome any comments and the identification of any institutions
that may be slightly misleading their students.
regards
richard
