The Hill Monastic Manuscript Library, which actively preserves
handwritten medieval manuscripts on microfilm and is building the
world's most comprehensive collection of manuscript images, seeks to
fill the position of Executive Director.
The Executive Director reports to the President of Saint John's
University. The Director is the primary spokesperson and advocate for
manuscript preservation to the general public, the international
scholarly community, and to the other libraries and institutions with
which it has working relationships. The incumbent has prime
responsibility for the external relations of HMML, coordinates the work
of the Library's Board of Overseers and committees of the Board, and is
responsible for implementing the strategic plan. The incumbent has
ultimate responsibility for the organization and administration of the
Hill Monastic Manuscript Library.
The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. degree, preferably in
medieval studies or related fields, and is visible and active within the
scholarly community. The incumbent will have a deep respect for the
Catholic intellectual tradition and the Benedictine principles that
guide it at Saint John's, and have a strong record of successful
organizational and human resource management and fundraising experience.
Training or experience in manuscript studies, preservation, or the book
arts is expected.
Saint John's University, a liberal arts college, is located in
Collegeville, Minnesota, about 70 miles northwest of the Twin Cities,
near Saint Cloud. It is situated on a 2,450-acre campus of lakes, pine
and hardwood forest, oak savannah, and prairie on the grounds of Saint
John's Abbey.
