Just of the top of my head, I believe that the
reason St Andrew is patron of Scotland (and also,
I think, parts of the former soviet union -
Im afraid I dont remember WHICH parts) - is
identification of Scotia, as well as the
later slavic territories, with Scythia,
which would have been (in medieval geographical
terms) roughly the Black-Sea area which you
describe.
(Isnt the 30th also Robert Burns birthday?)
