italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies
Dear Colleagues,
Here in London we are just getting the first showings of Scorsese's
'Journey through Italian Cinema'. There has been some coverage in the
press. In the Guardian of Friday 2nd November it stated that Scorsese
'has secured access to an astonishing range of rare classics'. Do
colleagues know any more of the history of how he has done so? Is
there any sense in which Scorsese is also involved in restoring any of
the 'rare classics' he shows? The quality of the material is
marvellous, showing detail which videos never pick up. There was
some coverage in the Italian press when his film was shown at the
Venice Film Festival(not this year, maybe in 2000?). If colleagues
know more, or could direct me to appropriate articles, I would be
interested to learn from them!
best wishes, Pauline Small
