The Open University, UK
Faculty of Mathematics and Computing
Computing Department
Research Fellow in Human-Computer Interaction / Requirements Engineering
Applications are invited for a Research Fellowship in the Computer-Human
Interaction (CHI) research group to join an EPSRC-funded project -
'Exploring Exceptions in User-Centred Requirements and User Interface
Designs'.
The project focuses on the exploration of exceptions during requirements
engineering and early prototyping of user interface designs in order to
derive more complete and realistic user-centred requirements. Consequently,
the systems developed would be more robust, fault-tolerant, usable, and will
yield a positive user experience.
The work in this project will involve a combination of contextual fieldwork,
user-observation sessions in a usability lab, and remote usability
evaluations to identify exceptions in three application domains. The results
from these studies will lead into development of suite of techniques and a
scenario-walkthrough method to investigate and predict exceptions in the
early stages of the software development life cycle. The research work will
be carried out in close collaboration with industrial and academic
collaborators. Information about the CHI research group, current projects
and publications can be found on our Web site: http://computing.open.ac.uk.
The post is available from 1st January 2002 and is for two years. You should
have a post-graduate degree with research experience in human-computer
interaction, requirements engineering, computer science, psychology, or
related disciplines. Experience of conducting field studies and remote
evaluations of interactive systems would be an added advantage.
You will be based in the Computing Department in the Faculty of Mathematics
and Computing, the Open University, Milton Keynes. Appointment to this post
will be made on the Research Fellow salary scale in the range £17,451 -
£20,267 depending on qualifications and experience.
