RESEARCH SPECIALIST - DRUGS (32K Pro-rata)
Working within the Research and Information Directorate
At the Health Development Agency
SHORT TERM CONTRACT / SECONDMENT
DECEMBER 2001-MARCH 2002 (Part-Time)
The Health Development Agency (HDA) is a special health authority that
aims to improve the health of people in England - in particular, to reduce
inequalities in health. Working closely with the government, the public
sector and private and professional health organisations, the HDA
commissions research, advises on the setting of standards and provides
development support to those working in public health at regional and
local levels. We now have an opportunity for a committed professional to
contribute to our business planning and performance management.
The research and information directorate's role within this context is to:
* Maintain an up to date map of the evidence base for public health
and health improvement;
* Strengthen the evidence base by commissioning evaluation and
research about inequalities in health
* Disseminate the evidence
The Directorate's programme of work for 2001/2002 has been developed to
produce a series of topic-based syntheses of 'what works' to improve
health and to reduce health inequalities. These syntheses will provide a
critical analysis of the current literature summarising the state of the
evidence in a particular area, its strengths and weaknesses and the gaps
in the research base. The overall aim of these syntheses is to support
evidence based decision making and to inform the future direction of
research.
We are now looking for an experienced researcher and writer to join a
small team of researchers responsible for developing the evidence base in
the area of drugs.
Interested applicants will most likely have:
* A relevant postgraduate research qualification (preferably in the
field of Public Health or Social Science)
* A minimum of 5 years working experience in either the health sector
or relevant academic area.
* Excellent written and communication skills
* Demonstrable ability to work in a team
