Thanks Jason
I feel that the recording of finds and environmental material on
SMRs in a way which is cost effective and usefull to the greatest
number of people is a major issue which will hold back the
development of SMRs as research and management tools if it is
not addressed. I know that Liza Moffett (EH) is working on the
environmental side of this problem and I think it would be a good
idea to set up a small working party to prepare some proposals on
theory and method to be presented to the main user group ASAP.
This issue has, of course, implications for the integration of the
Portable Antiquities data

victoria has a point here in this issue ...
The historic landscape needs to be considered and as we inevitably
move toward being resources (certainly funding is directing us all
towards this) we must start to think behound just development control
and considering a wider scope to what and how we record monuments,
finds and landscapes.
The finds is desperately inadequate in the Exegesis system.... and i think
this will be a real problem as the county SMR's gain portable antiquaries
information. I think we need to think about how we wish to record such
information now. Do we need to record assemblages i would think yes
we do in fact instead of the finds form just enableing 1 to 1 link. The form
should be able to record assemblages as necessary.
