Another request for some information, no less; I have for my sins been
involved recently in the recording of an industrial monument (water tank and
riser - 1870), largely comprised of wrought iron, and riveted together. The
monument was undergoing restoration and the process of stripping the old
paint and rust away revealed remarkably crisp evidence of both hand and
mechanical riveting techniques, as well as rolling mill stamps.
Now what I would like to know is whether anyone out there in Britarch land
knows of any particular literature, or other source - preferably
illustrated - that might describe and/or compare riveting technologies,
applications etc? I'm hoping you may be able to shorten my other lines of
