Dear colleagues
The RESULTs Network project to develop a web portal for users of learning technologies is
progressing well. For information on the project (if you haven't heard of RESULTs by now), do
feel free to browse the All About RESULTs section on the RESULTs development web site at:
results.csu.umist.ac.uk. The registration procedure is still under development, so you can just
hop into the All About RESULTs section and have a browse round our documentation or stay
and contribute to our discussions on development (devtalk).
The project experienced some setbacks earlier in the year arising from a delay in re-recruitment
of our web developer. In addition to Peter Jackson based at Warwick, we now have Steven
Richardson working with Clive Young at UMIST since July. Steve and Peter have their noses to
the grindstone and progress is excellent. We aim to have a first prototype by December that
incorporates nearly the main features identified through the feedback you gave the project team
(at ALT-Conferences and via the extensive user needs survey undertaken by Helen Beetham).
It's an exciting time.
RESULTs seeks your involvement at these early stages. There are two ways you can get
participate in developing RESULTs. Firstly, simply by contributing to discussions on various
aspects of portal development as we proceed, and secondly by forwarding links to resources
you hold on your own institutional or departmental web sites. These resources will cover a range
of "types" (case studies, ) and will help us to produce a realistic starting point for a learning and
teaching "category" tree, including specific aspects to do with learning technologies. As the
portal develops, we hope the tree will become a dynamic thing defined by users that reflects how
approaches and resources for teaching and learning are used in practice, rather than simply
holding or pointing to those resources.
If you are interested in contributing to discussions on aspects of the RESULTs portal
development, do join us in our musings and the finding of solutions on the DEV.TALK discussion
board on the RESULTs development web site at:
results.csu.umist.ac.uk
Go to All About RESULTs and select devtalk button on the right hand side.
If you are more "teaching and learning" minded, you might start on the Categories discussion
forum conference. If you like to get your hands dirty with "technical issues", feel free to home in
on the Code and Design section. If you just want to chat generally or play with the system, you
can get going with the other two conference areas. All contributions are valued.
Do you have resources that you feel would be useful to others and are you willing to share them
with others in the learning technology community by submitting to RESULTs descriptions of the
resource and how they are being used. If so, please get in touch by contacting Peter Jackson
preferably by email to [log in to unmask] but also by phone 024 76574001.
Hope to see you online at RESULTs: results.csu.umist.ac.uk
With regards
Jay
