And I would dispute that physio students' opinions reflect those of the
general public, as the UK researcher states. It is my opinion that amongst
the educated and the elderly, physiotherapy is not held to be an occupation
of exceedingly high status in Australia. The fact that Australian physio
students see it that way would be expected, as you could argue many
wouldn;t have spent 4 years studying it if they didn't see some value in
it.
I think it would be interesting to interview physios five and ten years
post graduation. Their opinion would reflect reality more than an
undergraduate's, with all the insight that comes straight out of high
school.
And the fact that the average full time physio career is 7 years and length
of APA membership is 5 years must say something about the viability of
physiotherapy as a career deserving status.
