medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear list-members,
Apologies for a rather off-topic query, but does anyone have a feeling for
whether it was typical for monastic communities to undergo an internal
reform under the direction of reformers from outside the community's own
order? I am dealing with a female Cistercian community, reformed in 1469
under the direction of spiritual advisors from Benedictine and Augustinian
houses (with Cistercian advisors notably lacking). Does anyone have a
feeling for whether this is unusual or typical and/or ideas about secondary
literature that might address this issue?
Many thanks,
