italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies
David,
Contact Jonathan Dunnage at [log in to unmask] He knows a great deal
about policing under fascism and what the archival situation is. He has also
written extensively on the subject.

Subject: [I-S] Searching for Sicilian police records
italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies
Can anyone please adbvise where the records of various police forces active
in Sicily during the 1910s and the 1920s will be held today. Someone did
suggest that some were destroyed during 1943 bombing. Dr. Christopher
Duggan, in his book "Fascism and the Mafia", noted that many were difficult
to locate and one sometimes needed contacts to be able to view at all.
However, I wonder if the State archives in Palermo might have some, at
least, of the surviving records? Are they accessible to the general public?
In addition, I understand that there are provincial archives in Trapani,
Agrigento and other areas. Would these have separate records taken from
police units operating in their specific areas? Any help is appreciated.
Dave Critchley.
