At the Homerton we use a d dimer as part of a protocol for suspected DVTs -
clinical probability, venometer - strain gauge plethysmograph and d dimer.
The combined results decide the management plan. For PE we use it with
clinical probability. We try to ban anyone using d dimmer as an exclusion
test - but often find the assumption that a negative d dimer excludes
