italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies
Friday 10 and Saturday 11 May 2002
Society for Italian Studies Annual Conference: Orality and Literacy
Institute of Romance Studies, Malet Street, London
Organisers: Professor Michael Caesar (University of Birmingham) and Marina
Spunta (University of Leicester)
The conference provides an opportunity to take stock of recent and ongoing
research in topics which straddle the boundaries between 'oral' and
'written' cultures, and which explore critically the relationship between
them.
Issues to be addressed include: the presence of oral tradition in medieval
and early modern culture; the changing role of orality in relation to print
and new electronic media; the representation of orality in written texts;
orality in theatre and cinema; reflections on voice and subjectivity; and
linguistic perspectives on the spoken and the written. For further
information contact Michael Caesar at [log in to unmask]
