Hmmm, if I were the Government I'd stop wasting my energy on ID cards (as
noted, too easy to forge) and put effort into trying to rush through
compulsory national biometric databases such as iris scans. Officers could
be equipped with cheap, convenient, and relatively non-intrusive scanners
instead of asking for your card. No doubt before long it will be feasible to
scan irises from a 'safe' distance, much as it is now feasible to perform
facial scans in busy shopping centres using CCTV. I guess I'd have to
address the problem of iris scans being less reliable in people with dark
eyes (i.e. blacks) at some point, but what the heck, some control is better
than none.
Crikey, thank heavens I'm not the Government ;)
Cheers,
Bob.
