The Civic Education Project (CEP) is an international voluntary
organization rooted in the belief that democratic society requires
critically minded and informed individuals, works to enhance the
development of higher and professional education in societies engaged in
political and economic transition. Since 1991, CEP has been working to
develop the capacity of higher education throughout Central/East Europe and
Eurasia to produce future decision-makers and educators capable of leading
their countries toward greater economic prosperity and stability.
The Civic Education Project (CEP) is accepting applications for two
positions for its new US office in Washington, DC:
1. EXTERNAL RELATIONS OFFICER
Reporting directly to the CEP President, the External Relations Officer
will oversee the fundraising and publicity efforts of CEP in the United
States. The External Relations officer will be responsible for developing
and maintaining relationships with appropriate government, corporate, and
foundation entities as well as private donors. The External Relations
Officer will also work closely with the CEP Board of Directors, Director of
Finance and other Senior Staff members.
Desired Qualifications:
Advanced degree in the social sciences or humanities, exceptional written
and oral communication skills, and familiarity with basic financial
concepts. Previous experience with PR/fundraising, grant writing and an
interest in the region in which CEP operates are strongly preferred.
Successful candidates should be resourceful, good-natured, hard working and

Salary Range: $38,000 - $42,000 p.a. depending on salary history and
experience
2. PROGRAM ASSISTANT
The Program Assistant will provide general support to, and report to the
Director of Faculty Recruitment and University Relations.
Administrative Responsibilities:
· Coordination of fellowship applications
· Handling CEP advertising in North America
· Assisting in fellowship recruitment process and identification of
fellowship candidates
· Help develop and provide logistical support for CEP Programs
· Assist with alumni affairs and communication with alumni
· General office support
Desired Qualifications:
· BA in international relations/political science with emphasis on
Soviet/East European studies
· Proficiency in Russian or other post-Soviet/E. European language a plus
· Knowledge of database programs, spreadsheets, and web page applications
· 1+ years related administrative experience
Salary Range: $26,000 - 29,000 p.a. depending on salary history and
experience
Both positions are available as of November 1, 2001 and candidates must be
eligible to legally work in the United States. Some travel to countries of
E.Europe/Former Soviet Union will be necessary.
