Dear Barrett,
I appreciate a lot this reply from McKenzie. Yes I believe that :"Acitivity
on this planet is spontaneous..". In France, Francoise Mezieres, some years
ago wrote that we are more altered by excess of tension of our muscles than
back lack of strength. I really believe in this. Some other authors, sorry
I cannot cite them exactly published "L' anti-gymnastique" (easy to
translate, I suppose) and all were considering stretching tense muscles
groups instead of strenghtening. We are here far from work hardening...As
long as somebody can get up and walk, he has the potential to recover his
function the right way as long as he/she has not read about erroneous
concepts as"No pain no gain" or "you must work out as many hours a day"
concepts which besides filing up the PT offices do not bring so much benefit.
Yes you need to challenge your cardio-pulmonary function but...in a
reasonnable way. Do you think that all these athletes wearing multiple
support at the level of each joint look healthy? Another reference:
Godelieve Struyff, from Belgium published about muscular chains and how to
keep them free of tension in order to improve posture and treat pain. Her
concept of muscular chains go beyond this simple principle. Too long to
explain here. Thank you for your post, Barrett. Best regards . AMV Newman
