Permanent post for MEDICAL STATISTICIAN
Health Services Research Unit
The Health Services Research Unit is a division of the Department of
Population Health Sciences, one of the five departments at the National
Institute of Public Health.
The Unit is an active research environment employing about 30 staff with
education in, among other things, medicine, epidemiology, economics,
anthropology, psychology, physiology, political science, and informatics.
Our main goal is to improve health care decision-making by making it easier
to find and implement evidence on the effect of health care interventions.
To achieve this goal, the unit carries out randomised controlled trials,
systematic reviews (meta-analyses) and research on methodology. The unit is
responsible for the Norwegian contribution to The Cochrane Collaboration
(www.cochrane.dk) and has good contact with other international research
groups and is the coordinating centre for the Cochrane Collaboration
Methodology Review Group.
We have a vacancy for a statistician to work on a number of the Unit's
projects using methods such as cluster-randomisation, meta-analysis and
multiple logistic regression. The successful applicant will engage in
analyses of trial data, methodological research, supervision of doctoral
students and have the opportunity to carry out his or her own research with
both intramural and extramural collaborators. The statistician's work will
be varied, including participation in international projects. Opportunities
for professional development are good.
We would like the position to be filled by a person meeting as many of the
following criteria as possible:
* experience in medical research
* experience with randomised controlled trials and meta-analyses
* skilled in the use of statistical packages and data management
* creativity and enthusiasm for applied health services research
* interest in methodological issues
* good communicative skills and the ability to work with others
* experience in supervising students
* good English language skills
The post would be suitable for someone with a Ph.D. or an MSc in medical
statistics or a similar discipline. Knowledge of Norwegian is advantageous
but not essential to begin with.
Salary: NOK 271,831 to 492,031 per year commensurate with education and
experience.
