italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies
Dear Chris,
attached is copy of letter sent to AP/ETS
To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing to strongly encourage the creation of an Italian AP. As a
member of AATI
which has submitted a detailed proposal, I do not have to reiterate the
many excellent
reasons why an AP exam in Italian is necessary.
I began learning Italian in high school (Lynbrook High School on Long
Island, NY) in the
70s, and took the French AP then.
I went on to a doctorate in Italian (UCLA), and am the principle author
of Parliamo
italiano! (Houghton Mifflin Co, 1st ed 1998, 2nd ed 2002) and the first
non-native speaker
of Italian to have authored a major program for learning Italian in the
English speaking
world (the program is used in the US and Canada, United Kingdom,
Ireland, Australia,
New Zealand, South Africa).
I am also a Harvard graduate (class of '82), completing my degree in 3
years, thanks to
AP credits earned in high school.
It is high time there was an AP exam in Italian; I fully support the
AATI's petition for
creation of the exam.
Sincerely,
Suzanne Branciforte
