Dear Colleagues
We have been asked for views on two issues concerning library provision in
Britain and in the Higher Education sector on the assumption that no single
library can cover all needs and that we need a national plan to develop
cooperation in dealing with the increasing volume of information. I'll put
together a response building in any (briefly formulated!) ideas you may
communicate to me. I am required to respond by 14 September, so could
anyone so moved please respond to me by end August:
a) What are the needs of UK reseachers working at the forefront of their
discipline for access to research information; how do these needs vary
between subject groups - sciences, social sciences, hiumanities - and
between disciplines within these; how do you see them developing in the
next ten years?
b) What provision is needed to meet these needs; how will needs change;
what are main current gaps; what structures and actions are needed to
ensure access to the full range of information resources?
best wishes
Elizabeth Boa, (qua President of CUTG)
