Subject: CFP: Cultures of Globalization (UK) (8/31/01; 11/17/01)
CULTURES OF GLOBALIZATION
A day of papers and discussions at Kingston University, Surrey, UK
Saturday, 17th November 2001
CALL FOR PAPERS
"Cultures of Globalization" will provide a forum for discussions of the
ways in which the concepts and contexts of globalization can be
linked to understandings of a wide range of cultural forms. In a
series of sessions reflecting on the connections between theories of
globalization, the representation of globalism in contemporary
culture and perspectives on identity, ethnicity, consumerism and
technology, "Cultures of Globalization" sets out to explore the
connections and conflicts that define contemporary culture at the
start of the twenty first century.
* Borderlands: representing ethnicity in the age of globalisation
* Go Logo: the cultures of branding
* Theorising globalization
* Everything is connected in the end: globalization and the novel
* The stuff that surrounds us: reading global cultures
Proposals for papers on these or related themes would be most
welcome. Please contact James Annesley at the address below by
Friday 31 August 2001.
