Subject: [danmail] DRC Genetics Seminar-2nd attempt
On DRC headed notepaper.
Dear Mr McGovern,
Disability Rights Commission Seminar: The Implications of Genetic
Development for Disabled People
Tuesday 3 July 2001, 3=5pm
Holiday Inn Kings Cross/Bloomsbury, London
On behalf of the Disability Rights Commission I would like to invite you to
take part in a seminar at the Holiday Inn Kings Cross/Bloomsbury in London
on 3 July 2001, followed by a drink reception.
The focus of this seminar will be Genetics and it will cover the following
issues currently faced by the disabled community:
* Have disabled people more to gain or to fear from developments in
genetics?
* Do developments in genetic science promote eugenics?
* How can we make parental choice a reality rather than a forgone
conclusion?
* Doe ante-natal screening inevitably increase prejudice against disabled
people?
* Does more information about people's genes mean more disability
discrimination?
It is expected that this meeting will last approximately 2 hours with
presentations from 2 distinguished speakers, Bill Albert of the Human
Genetics Commission and Tom Shakespeare of the Policy Ethics and Life
Research Institute.
