The International Cultural Heritage Informatics Meeting (ichim) is,
traditionally, the best international forum in which to examine the
relationship between technology and Cultural Heritage.
The theme of ichim01 is "Cultural Heritage and Technologies in the Third
Millennium", with the aim to emphasise the present and future role of
innovative technologies for Cultural Heritage applications.
Since 1991, ichim has been held every two years, alternating between North
America and Europe. In 1997 we met at Le Louvre museum in Paris, and
ichim99 was in Washington D.C. Our host for ichim01 is Politecnico di
Milano, where we expect at least 500 specialists, from museums, cultural
organizations, universities, research institutes, technology companies and
organizations.
The exciting program of ichim01 includes:
* keynote speeches by outstanding experts: Maxwell L. Anderson (Director of
the New York Whitney Museum of American Art, USA), Sarah Tyacke (Keeper of
the Public Records Office, United Kingdom), and Peter Walsh (Chair of the
Commonwealth of Massachusetts Art Commission, USA)
* over one hundred (full and short) papers, presented by the most relevant
professionals and researchers from twenty-four different countries (all the
five continents included)
* outstanding panels, where leading experts from the US and Europe will
debate about the general theme of ichim01 and will highlight new visions
* over thirty demonstrations of intriguing technologies and applications
* twenty-six tutorials (twenty in English and six in Italian) covering a
broad spectrum of approaches and state-of- the-art technologies for
Cultural Heritage applications
* engaging social events, held in the most charming places of Milan - the
City of Art, Fashion, and Design.
ichim01 is held under the aegis of the Cultural Heritage Ministry of Italy,
the European Commission (IST Programme), Fondazione CARIPLO, Camera di
Commercio di Milano, Municipality of Milano, the counties of Genova,
Milano, Perugia, Roma, Torino, Venezia, the regions Abruzzo, Basilicata,
Calabria, Emilia Romagna, Lazio, Liguria, Lombardia, Puglia, Sicilia,
