Archaeologist Terence Meaden observed a clear-sky sunrise from the middle of
Stonehenge three days ago on 25 June 2001. This was important because in
recent years it is not often possible to be inside the monument of
Stonehenge under PERFECT weather conditions at the time of the midsummer
solstice.
Allowing for the very tiny difference in sunrise azimuth between 21 and 25
June and for the bigger but known difference in azimuth that has occurred
since the Late Neolithic, the sun's path was exactly as described in Chapter
9, pages 99 - 104 of Meaden's book STONEHENGE: THE SECRET OF THE
SOLSTICE.
More information is given in http://stonehenge-avebury.net
or in http://stonehenge-avebury.net/megaframes.html It proves that,
when Stonehenge was built, the sun shone first along the axis to the
standing Altar Stone before being eclipsed by the intermediary of the Heel
Stone. This all suggests that Stonehenge was a temple at the heart of a
fertility religion.
