I suggest you look at Council Regulation 44/2001 (OJ L 12, 2001) on the
recognition and enforcement of commercial and judicial decisions.

Subject: Legal precedence
If a UK company is trading with, say, a German Company and something goes
wrong. Would the dispute be dealt with under German or UK law (if it
wasn't covered by EU legisalation)?
The enquirer concerned currently has a clause in their contract saying
subject to UK law and is wondering if this is actually valid.
Many thanks.
