medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Shame and embarrassment, I cannot even wriggle out of this one by
claiming to have pressed the wrong key (reminder to self: you're an old
man -- get to bed earlier). It leaves me curious though about the
attributes of these god-demons: Venus as promiscuous hussy, Mars as
sower of discord -- the attributes have become human and prosaic, and
quite un-godlike. Augustine and Caesarius yes. Thanks for that. But
further, if this is for the consumption of the 'rustic' (even via the
intermediary of a lateinfaehig priest), then why use the names of Roman
gods and not
the local names, which would presumably have been Germanic?
