Mireille, et al,
I have just finished reading Michael Dames "The Avebury Cycle" (Thames and
Hudson 1977).
His interpretation of the Avebury complex is controversial, but there are
many excellent references in there to snake worship and symbolism in various
parts of the world.

>Hi, list
I have long been interested in the cretan snake goddesses and the possible
connection with snake symbols in the Bible, Greek and Roman mythology as
well
as the 'feathered serpent' of the Maya. These last few contributions about
Aesculapius have renewed my enthusiasm in the subject.
I too thought that the evil snake in the Bible may have stood for an earlier
matriarchal or Earth cult.
